About Macquarie University Accessibility Services (MQAS)
MQAS is an advocate for and facilitator of universal design in the online and e-book environments. Since 2005, MQAS has been developing e-books for students with access needs, and now publishes textbooks through Macquarie Lighthouse E-book Publishing.
MQAS also:
- provides educational development support to teachers and academics
- designs and converts content for accessible hand-held devices
- contributes daily support material on emerging technologies and equity issues at mqas.org
- converts materials into accessible formats for people using assistive technologies
- presents customized workshops on universal design and assistive technologies
- checks accessibility of curriculum and online learning resources
- creates educational game applications and virtual environments
provides leadership and participation in research that facilitates equity of access to education and employment - convenes and teaches FOBE201: Working with and Employing People with Disability
- hosts a National Accessibility Support Service (NASS) to check the accessibility of online units
- developed the:
- MQAS Orange Tool for assisting in developing accessible online units, and the
- MQAS Green Tool for checking the accessibility of completed online units
